Last week had been a tough one for me. I’ve had a toothache that had me more than suicidal (seriously), and some professional demands from my ‘day time’ gig that kept me working late and getting only a wink of a sleep. Funny though, through it all and even as I sit here typing, music has always been my only sustenance. In particular beautiful love ballads. I guess we writers derive our creativity from many sources and that should be of no surprise. I can only share that writing matters of the heart comes from the deepest part of expression for me, and music is the key that has unlocked so many wonderful stories. I say this to say that I’m always affected by how great and unexplainable life is. And this weekend while moaning in bed with a mouth full of ambesol I was once again rocked to my very core. Whitney Houston passed away. I only know her as a talent. I have no real commentary on her personal life and issues. I’m sitting here laughing and grinning. Maybe it’s the late hour and my near delirium is expected thanks to my lack of sleep. Or maybe it’s the dawn of a new weekend and I’m really relaxed and relieved to be free of the grind of the first week back at work. (Bleh!) Or maybe it’s this email from a reader before me.

Reviewers and review sites exist to critique and criticize, so that didn’t bother me. I’ve learned every review (good or bad) can be turned to good publicity. However, what did make my brow arch in delight was the fact that I’m being advised to seek a professional career as a Soap Opera Writer instead of novelist. LOL!! I love it!

But alas, the soaps are in the toilet so who will hire me? 🙁

I don’t provide my work to review sites. One of the most respected reviewers of romance is Romantic Times and as I shared before I’ve been nominated for Best Indie-Author Award 2011 for Buttercup. So hey, it … Read the rest

Some of you have asked about the steamy sex scenes we IR writers conjure. Where does the inspiration come from? How do we make it spicy and different, each and ever time. I’ve shared before that music always help me. In particular the steamy sex scenes in Illegal Affair. I’ve had my Ipod on a sexy rotation for weeks. One in particular is ‘Fool for Love’ by Cee-lo Green. I recently saw him perform the song on Soul Train Music Awards and I just couldn’t resist but share. Yes, everytime I hear this song I think of Shane and Rae. So yummy!

Have you seen the chaos and mayhem that took place yesterday? I’m so disgusted by the retailers and their phoney sales. But set that aside. Because there is no excuse for the tom foolery that took place. Seriously, fights over TV’s and waffle maker’s? Saturday Night Live did a spoof. I found it hilarious, and kind of scary because it’s closer to reality than I’ve seen. Hilarious!
