- Epilogue
Two sisters face love, heartbreak while navigating the trouble waters of their lives. Some habits are hard to break, others are one to make, and sometimes the love and friendship of one another is all that is needed to see you through tough times. Simone and Kim uncover the many of second chances and they both work to change their lives and begin again with men they never dreamed of.
“Cain, people are moving into the Dixon’s house.”
Maryanne sipped her tea, her head cocked to the side curiously. She stood at the picture window that faced the front of their home with cup and saucer in hand. The morning rays seemed to radiate from within her. When her head righted, her golden blonde locks swayed around her shoulders.
At one time he found her irresistible. She’d laugh at anything, make him smile when he didn’t know he needed too, and speak a language that only his heart could understand. She was still a very striking woman: leggy, athletic, perfect in her femininity. What man could ask for anything more in a wife? Indeed.
“They’re black. It’s a black couple,” Maryanne frowned.
She tossed her golden layers and drew him in with her eyes from over her shoulder. Blue, clear, omniscient, her eyes were the only features on her pretty face that he didn’t find soft and alluring. Sharp, aware, and commanding, they revealed too much of who Maryanne was. “Of course I wouldn’t care that they’re black. The Goldbergs are Jewish and I was the first to welcome them to the neighborhood,” she said, looking back to the window. “Still, odd that the Dixon’s would sell to a black couple, I have it on good authority that Daniel Dixon is a closeted racist.” She took another sip, “Odd.”
“I’m off to the office,” Cain announced, picking up his satchel and the day’s paper for the time he was sure to spend in bumper-to-bumper traffic. With everything in hand he headed for the door.
Maryanne set her tea down quickly rounding the furniture to cut him off. “Father wants us to go to Martha’s Vineyard for the fourth this year,” she said, straightening his tie and smoothing over the front of his suit.
“Martha’s Vineyard? We’re going to see Daniel and his wife. I already have the tickets,” Cain scowled. His brother was recently honorably discharged from the military. He and his wife—who happened to be Chinese—had bought a house in Florida. He hadn’t seen him in three years. Cain had rented a boat for some deep-sea fishing. The trip was the only thing he’d been looking forward to for weeks. Maryanne knew this.
She batted her long lashes at him. She gave him that Hollingsworth smile that once seduced him into emptying out his savings to buy her the large stone sparkling on her ring finger.
“Then maybe you should invite Joseph and Lailynn to the Vineyard because that’s where we’ll be this fourth.”
Cain eyes narrowed on her. He swallowed his refusal, forming a knot of frustration tight in his chest. He knew her arsenal included the exclusion of sex, conversation, then her ultimate weapon: calling Daddy to force him to have one of his ‘talks’ with Cain that always ended in his granting her wishes.
“Oh now come on, honey,” she purred, “…this will be wonderful. Who wants to go fishing on some stinky boat anyway?”

I so love this story. Of all your stories (and they are all good), I would love to see you publish it. I have since several of your work and I know it’s long and the trend seems to be for short books these days, but so look forward to purchasing Bad Habits 1, 2, 3, etc. and reading it all again with the same fervour as when i first read it
